Just a suggestion. You guys considered just broadening your scope to covering Sony in general. The Vita seems to be winding down in terms of actual retail releases, although I suspect we'll continue to get a good stream of indies.
I bet a lot of your current audience currently goes elsewhere for PS4 news etc. Might get you more clicks?

then that would defeat the whole entire charm of this site.

It's charm that all its news is VITA related, and it isn't winding down on retail releases.

    What Kyle said.

Murphy had the idea for a PS4-themed site back in late 2013 named ThePS4Lounge (there's even a twitter feed for it) though but I think the idea was ultimately scrapped.

I'm certainly not going to say that "PS Vita is dying, therefore diversify", however there may be an opportunity to be seized on here. You have an audience. You have what looks to me like a decent CRM platform.

Sorry to go all business on you but here's a 5 part plan that might work to branch out into other PlayStation properties:
    1. You buy the domain name but keep it under wraps. Maybe get something more future proof like "PSLounge.net" or similar (no idea if that domain exists).
    2. You reach out and recruit some of us verbose folks who own both platforms to write/film/record content, especially relating to cross-buy or remote play (i.e. hybrid Vita/PS4 or Vita/PS3 topics). Call it "Vita+ content".
    3. You create a top-level stream for this cross-over Vita+ content to be fed out.
    4. After a while, once there is enough Vita+ content/the Vita does start to taper off, you launch the second "Lounge" site and migrate over all the hybrid content.
    5. Going forward, you start cross-posting the PS4-related content to the new site and begin producing PS4-only content just for that new site.
The key to success is to maintain the "Lounge" branding and to recruit people who can carry the load of creating content for the PS4 or "other than Vita" channel. You'll somehow need to incentivize people through review copies/a share of revenue based on traffic to their posts.

BTW The day that they announce the official name of Project Morpheus, you really ought to buy the <WhateverSonyVRIsCalled>Lounge.net domain and keep it in hand for another spin-off site. It will be a niche market, especially at first, and people will be looking to find a community just like this one for it. Maybe you do a VRLounge.net or somesuch if you want to cover VR generally, not only Sony's.

Why do they need to expand. This is a specialist news site, and I think trying to expand to cover more subjects would end up with this specialist site ending up forgotten while resources would be forced towards the bigger platform sites. There is no need to change something that is perfectly fine in the state it is.

Oh, I'm not suggesting that they water down the focus of content here. Au contraire. I'm suggesting a way they *could* diversify their audience overall without watering down TheVitaLounge.net. Fact is that with cross-buy titles, they're already writing some PS4/PS3-related content. By cross-posting that content on a separate but co-branded site and recruiting other people to drive that site, they might be able to leverage what they have (existing traffic, a brand) to build something more and longer term (i.e. post platform). Nothing should be done that would jeopardize the quality and focus of The Lounge as we know it.

None of it may be a good idea, I'm just thinking out loud in reaction to the question posed: not "Should they branch off" but "Is it possible without ruining what exists today"?

There are quite a few posts here to reply to so bear with me!

As noted by others, we did loosely experiment with The PS4 Lounge. For those that love a bit of history, VL is not the first "Lounge" branded site I have tried, it was preceded by The 360 Lounge. Much of our content is cross buy with the PS3/4 and therefore relevant somewhat to those audiences but this site works and is as successful as it is because of the Vita niche. There are so many sites doing the PS4 and PlayStation in general that we would just be a small fish in a (very established) big pond.

As noted above, this is not the first "Lounge" branded site and I suppose the longer term ambition would be a network of lounges for multiple formats. Regardless of that viability, I do need to have a longer term vision for TVL and an evolution of it perhaps, but we really don't know where the Vita will end up. We also don't know for certain that this will be Sony's last foray into the handheld business. I suppose we will learn more in the next couple of years, and when we learn more about the Nintendo NX.

Right now though I'm happy enough with just the one site. Overall I could never have dreamed that the site would be as successful as it has, or potentially turn it into a business. And anyway, this site is what it is because of the people. The readers and the team. There is no guarantee I could replicate that elsewhere. Everything came together favourably for TVL.

I'm glad you think so! That was the aim :)

What we need to expand on is what we don't do too well. Video content is an absolute certainty here as well as getting more unique content and developer interviews which we are now doing through the magazine. Covering the Vita across all medium and executing it well is the current objective. Of course there needs to be a discussion on the future, but I feel that will be more a natural evolution to the site rather than a change in direction. There is a reason that we only do Vita and not PSOne/PSM et al.

Stick to what you are good at :)
