Kick and Fennick, its not something special....
Started CastleStorm, fun an very overlooked game
So I've been playing the Yakuza Ishin and Yakuza 0 companion apps today.
To give you an idea of the games, they both give you a mix of gambling games, other mini games and battle dungeons (in Ishin) and the fighting arena (Yakuza 0).
Ishin allows you to do some of the Haruka side mission - you grow/collect crops, sell the crops and use the ingredients to cook meals.
You also have access to the blacksmith to forge better swords, of course you need to really hit the battle dungeon hard to get the ingredients needed to create the swords (and by the end of the main game trust me you'll be grinding a ton!).
You can also fish for... fish. However I feel that you can't do much with the fishing for now since you'd need to upgrade the fishing rod to really catch the big fish (which you can do on the app, just grind for Verya points).
The main bulk of the game though is in the Battle Dungeons and the gambling house:
The battle dungeons are smaller linear levels where you battle through hordes of enemies (and sometimes complete certain sub missions) and then fight a boss. There are around 30 of them to complete and they get harder as you go (to the point where they actually get pretty damn annoying in the full version of the game). Its got the full combat engine of the main game and you can level up all your fighting styles as you go - making the game more fun the more you play it. It runs pretty well (but not perfectly) but its cool to have a little Yakuza game to play on the go.
The gambling on both games is ace, you've got a mix of casino gambling games (Black Jack, Poker, Roulette, Baccarrat) along with Japanese gambling like Koi Koi and Chou Han. Mah Jong is present in Ishin but you'd need to pay for it in the 0 app (its one of the paid games, along with the arcade games like Columns and Monkey Ball). Mah Jong is great in Ishin, its slightly cut down (no more dramatic cutscenes when you win/lose) but the core game is there and is just as addictive as ever.
The Zero app gives you an arcade where you can play some emulated games (but you have to pay a couple of hundred yen to unlock that part), the Slot Machines and the fighting arena. The slot machines are fairly standard and basically follows the standard pattern of shoveling money into them until they finally pay out. Not that difficult in 0 since you get millions of yen for doing almost nothing.
The fighting arena is pretty fleshed out, while I've not done all of it yet you get the choice of using Kiryu or Majima and then taking on one of several different types of arena challenge (straight up fights, weapon fights, fights on a massive burning platform etc.) Your limited to only one fighting style for each character (in the main game you get three) but you can unlock most of the moves for the styles you have access to. The problem with the mode is that it looks like its aimed at you being a certain level when you start the fights, as at the moment some battles are brutally difficult! Your characters are level 1 with barely any moves so its an up hill struggle to complete most arena battles past the first tour.
Again, the fighting system works perfectly here, and feels smoother than Ishin (maybe because its just 1 on 1 battles?) and its gotten me suitably hyped for the full game due out this Thursday. These are great little apps, nothing amazing but they are free (and still better than certain full priced games I've played).
Finished The Hungry Horde (really good), and have started OlliOlli 2. It's amazing how quickly I got back into the grinding groove - musta been all that time I spent playing the first game - and it's a lot of fun. I'm not great at it (struggling to do consistent manuals), but up to the 3rd section in career mode.
I can see me splitting my time between Olli Olli 2 and DanganRonpa 2, although with Hotline Miami 2 coming in just a few days, I've got a lot of great gaming to get though in so little time....
/first world problems
Plants vs. Zombies - Almost finished with the mini-games.
Helldivers, lufstrausers and olli olli 1... Waiting for hotline miami 2!
Working my way through OlliOlli 2's trophy list. I've just managed to finish amateur mode and I'm just missing a few challenges from the last world which is a supreme step up in difficulty compared to the last game (or the 4th level of this game). Its brutal with its jumps, tricky grinds and outright evil sections! Pro mode looks even harder challenge wise from the offset, its going to take me a while to finish this game off... Its so damn good though, the only thing I don't love about this game is the launchers/jump pads as they are a nightmare to get the timing down sometimes (especially in the last levels...)
Counterspy, Child of Light, Murasaki Baby, Tales of Hearts R, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2, Earth Defense Force Portable 2017, Kick and Finick, etc. etc. etc.... @~@ Yeesh, "No games on the Vita" my backside...
Focusing on trying to finish DanganRonpa 2 (just started Chapter 4) before Wednesday (AKA Hotline Miami 2 day) - although I don't think I'm gonna make it!
I'm also grinding away on OlliOlli 2 - it's great, but I'm really strugging. I was hoping it would be more accessible than the first game, but if anything, it's even harder! /o\
I'm still hammering away at OlliOlli 2. I had a great run last night/this afternoon and managed to beat all the amateur challenges and make decent headway into the Pro challenges. This game is exactly what I wanted it to be - challenging, fun, addictive while also adding a couple of cool new mechanics to keep things fresh. I still don't like the launchers though, that's probably my main complaint in this game at this stage.
For the past month or two I've been trying to cut down the size of my gaming backlog so I've got a couple of Vita games on the go at the moment. Primarily though I've been playing Ys: Memories of Celceta, Duke Nukem, and Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable.
Just purchased Helldivers, and I can see myself putting some serious hours in to it, almost feels like a top-down version of Destiny with the community aspects that are included in it. I'm also playing Resistance Retribution for the PSP, the multiplayer is still up and after about 6pm GMT it's fairly populated, which is great because I've been able to play my way to Field Marshall all over again haha!
Been playing snippets of CounterSpy, Killzone of course & Minecraft aswell!
I'm addicted to Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines. I'm on my sixth or seventh generation, and I finally found the site of the second Feast of all Demons, for which I still have half a year to prepare. Not too much time considering I've been in the labyrinth containing the entrance for three generations, haha. I'm also starting to reap the benefits of using/passing on heirlooms.
The more I hear about this game, the better and harder it sounds.
Some Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters, with OlliOlli2 on the side.
Flame Over. Its taken over from OlliOlli 2 as my addictive game of the week. Its a really solid game. Tough at first but I've managed to get really good at clearing rooms really quickly. Now I've got a load of gold trophies to aim for. I'd love to plat the game, as I've been really impressed by just how damn good the game is.
Trying to beat the last two levels on OlliOlli 2 amateur., pain in the bum.
Senran kagura SV
Kung Fu Rabbit - Decent enough platformer, easy Trophies to boot
Me too. Once I finish them, I'm done with the game.
Hotline Miami 2
and still working slowly on Danganronpa
Spent who knows how long playing Flame Over throughout the weekend, I've now managed to finish the game in one go and using no power ups. I've just got a couple of trophies left that'll probably be even harder still to get. Might take a break on it and start Hotline Miami 2 or Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters instead.
Damn! That's freaking impressive. I just started playing this on Saturday and I've been loving it. Spent pretty much all day on Sunday playing it. It's soooo addictive.
I can easily get through level one and two, but I'm stuck on Level 3. Any tips?
Are you completely leveled up? As I found that helped a lot for me personally. You'll need the defense upgrade to be maxed out as well as the water grenades to be maxed out as both come in insanely useful from level 3 onwards.
In level 3 (the labs) they introduce toxic waste that, when set on fire turns into green flames. Its horrible as it takes twice as much effort to put it out. I find alternating between both weapons works to disperse the flames as fast as possible. Also I assume your already rushing to the electricity rooms as a priority? If so sometimes its better to ignore some fires as you run to the electricity room, as its a pain when electrical fires spread.
There are some rooms where some kind of toxic chemical is leaking, and the screen turns a shade of green. Use the extinguisher on the green spurts spraying out of walls to plug them up. Once you get them all the screen will return to normal.
For large rooms with green flames, use a grenade. I try to limit myself to one if possible, but it just speeds things up. Keep in mind flames themselves don't damage you so rush in there and start spraying like a madman!
For the missions in Level 3, keep an eye out in stage one for the aliens in the stasis pods (there are four rooms - one with four aliens, one with two, and two separate rooms with one alien each). If you destroy them as you go it means less backtracking and the aliens are ALWAYS laid out in the same type of room so once you familiarize yourself with the game it gets easier. The valve mission on stage 3 sucks, as you have to keep an eye out for a little fire that can't be put out by your weapons. There are also seven of them, and no pattern that I've noticed. Honestly you'll just have to hope you've accumulated enough time along the way for this mission.
Those are my main tips. Level 4 is actually easier than level 3, its got a couple of rooms with green flames normally but its far more manageable. Just keep a couple of grenades back and you'll be fine.
What's annoying is that I should have got the trophy regarding doing all the missions in one go, but it didn't click after I'd finished the game... Kinda annoyed at that!
