Theres such a saturation of RPGs now that I don't know where to start. So I thought it best to get The Vita Lounges opinions/recommendations and work from there.

I loved Persona 4, thought Ys was okay and really liked Rainbow Moon. I just bought Disgeae 4 (considering I liked Rainbow Moon) but I just can't get into it, geo panels are just annoying. I might need to invest more time but I'm getting impatient.

I've tried to get into Disgaea a few times but it feels like a lot to take in too fast.

If you've not played it before FFX HD remaster is a fantastic RPG, turn based combat like persona and a great story.

Other than that I very much enjoyed demon gaze. I'd never really played a first person drpg before this by I found it quite enjoyable if a little repetitive at times.

Yes FFX HD is on my list, maybe I'll bump it up to first.

Demon Gaze looks quite different, don.t think I've seen/played a game like that before

I bumped into Atelier Rorona and that looked decent.

Also I bought Oreshika recently and although it started well, the tedious dungeon maps frustrated me too much.

I thought Persona 4 Golden the best period. Another good one is Dungeon Travellers 2.

Atelier Totori Plus is my favourite, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to everyone.

Tales of Hearts & Ys are both very good.

Why wouldn't you recommend Atelier to everyone?

Tales of Hearts looks a little dull

Seconding the call for FFX. Not just on Vita, probably my favourite RPG of all time. Also really loved Tales of Hearts R.

I have the same problem with Disgaea as you -- I really want to enjoy it, but there's so much to take in, and so much to get good at so quickly!

Okay so definitely FFX. Tales of Hearts looks quite similar to Ys.

I was also looking at older games like Joan of Arc and FF Tactics, have they dated well????

For me, the best RPGs playable on the Vita are mostly PS1 and PSP games. In general I'd say most PSP games have aged well apart from looking a tad blurry on the Vita while PS1 games using polygons can be a bit ugly to look at. What I would recommend looking into first, and I have to say I consider all of them essentials for RPG fans :p :

    Ps1:
    Suikoden 1+2
    Alundra
    Final Fantasy 5-9
    Xenogears
    Chrono Cross
Chrono Trigger (the DS and SNES versions are better but it's fine apart from longer load times)
    Wild Arms
Arc the Lad 1+2 (buy both or buy none because they are essentially one game split into two)
    Vanguard Bandits
    The Legend of Dragoon
    Parasite Eve (1)

    PSP:
    Lunar: Silver Star Harmony
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (if you like it, move on to its direct sequel with the same title plus "SC" (Second Chapter) at the end)
Ys Seven and Ys: The Oath in Felghana (Ys I&II is also awesome but very old-school in the combat)
    Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure
    Tactics Ogre
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
    Jeanne d'Arc
Valkyria Chronicles II (you need to transfer it from a PS3 IIRC to make it work on a Vita)
    Persona 3 Portable
    Brandish: The Dark Revenant
SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive Collection (Phantasy Star IV is on it among other great games. I think this needs to be transferred from a PS3)
    Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection

    Vita:
    Final Fantasy X | X-2
    Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (requires patience)
    Persona 4 Golden
    Tales of Hearts R
    Ys: Memories of Celceta

Once you're done with these essentials, there are a few more. I probably forgot some too.

They're like traditional JRPGs, but very removed from them too. So you'll be doing exploration; gathering; battles etc. just like you'd have thought, but there's a heavy emphasis on alchemy which makes up the bulk of the game.

Stories are very different too. They're not "save the world" like every other JRPG, more about individual characters and a task they have to undertake (save a shop; find character's mother/sister etc.) Some people won't like that - personally I love it because it's such a change of pace.

If you're looking at PSP titles as well, I agree Jeanne d'Arc is great, and I cannot recommend Mana Khemia enough. If you're interested in the many Atelier games, since a lot of them get enhanced Vita ports, Mana Khemia is by far the easiest point of entry to the series (it's a spin-off.) It also doesn't have the same kind of time restrictions as the newer titles so you're free to explore and do whatever you want to your heart's content. It's also the most successful game (I think) at making the alchemy system both engaging and rewarding.

On the Vita end though, I am required (by law) to plug Child of Light, since I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

Wow thanks for all the help guys, I'll definitely buy FFX and Jeanne d'Arc now.

I'm slowly realising I'm quite fussy with my RPGs so I'll draw the line there and dig a little deeper if i need to in the future (I've still got all the Danganronpa games to play!).

Too many games not enough time.

My favorite RPG that is native to the Vita has to be P4G. Everything about that piece of art screams class and style. However my favorite RPG at the moment is the PS1 classic Suikoden II. I absolutely adore this gem!

For Vita RPGs I'd say P4G and Disgaea 3 AoD were my favorite. Although I haven't played many myself, I plan to get more. I'm just broke af right now.

Persona 4 Golden is by far and away my favourite RPG of all time. The music, characters, the entirety of the game, perfection! Also a big fan of Oreshika, a real gem on the Vita!

That's definitely not just a TVL thing. Persona 4 is a very highly regarded game no matter where you go. Even if it's not my personal favorite I think it's easy to see why it is well liked.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified.

    But seriously...

    Monster Monpiece. Best game ever.

    OK seriously seriously....

    Equilibrium.

But seriously, Monster Monpiece is faptacular.

I guess I'd say P4G comes in at a close second though. I also really enjoyed Dragons Crown for its art and gameplay.
